PIG OUT

Swine Southern Table & Bar

Over Thanksgiving weekend, Billy and I took a quick trip down to Miami. One of our stops was at Swine Southern Table & Bar. I have no idea why I thought going to a barbecue restaurant the day after Thanksgiving was a good idea, but I had made a reservation so we went. It was worth it.

As soon as you pull up to the restaurant, the smell of wood smoked meat fills the air. With the high ceilings and piles of chopped wood, the look of the restaurant was barn-like (albeit a really nice and modern barn). Even though we live in the south, we don’t eat a lot of southern fare. My only regret is that I wasn’t hungrier when we went so I could have tried more of the menu!

12.2.14 blog 2Ommegang ‘Hennepin’ – Belgian style saison ale. Abita Brewing Company ‘Turbo Dog’ – Brown ale.

12.2.14 blog 4Fried Green Tomato: Winter Park FL tomme, pea shoots, tomato chow chow. These were super crispy without feeling greasy.

12.2.14 blog 5Low & Slow Ribs – competition rub, cider vinegar mop, homemade pickles. These were pretty meaty and had a fantastic smoked flavor. The meat came right off the bone which made them easy and not messy to eat.

12.2.14 blog 6Mac & Cheese -‘pig tail’ macaroni, bacon, five cheeses toasted bread crumbs. What’s not to like about mac & cheese with bacon? Really thick, really delicious.
